Keep your research outputs working for your group
The GeneSight team has spent years building bioinformatics analyses, research databases, and data platforms. A familiar situation: the paper is published and the data still exists, yet new group members struggle to find earlier results or trace how figures relate to samples. We work with research groups to put this material in order. Work best kept internal starts by serving the group; what meets the bar for public release becomes a resource that peers can browse, download, and cite.
A few principles we hold to
These principles shape project scope, data organization, and maintenance after handover.
Judge the problem first
Not every project should become a public database. An internal resource, an upgrade of an existing site, or deferring development may each be the better call.
Data with a traceable origin
Samples, analysis results, and figures in the paper should map to one another, so whoever takes over next knows what the data supports and how to use it.
A platform people keep using
During the build we identify the primary users, where updates will come from, and who maintains the result, so the project does not stall shortly after launch.
Enough features, no more
Solve the most important research tasks first. Add more data, analysis, or public services only when they are needed.
